He picked up his first guitar when he was 8. And then put it down again — for 7 years “It hurt my fingers!”. Luckily for us, aged 15 he picked it up again…
He likes big riffs and meaty guitar solos — the first album he bought was Appetite For Destruction, and he wishes he’d written “Back in Black” by AC/DC. A perfectionist, his fascination with technique — and sheer bloody-minded focus – led him to learn what is now his signature ‘lap-tapping’ method. A mate bet him £20 he couldn’t learn it in a week. He could — as the 600,000 and growing who have viewed the astounding Youtube videos of him will testify. His first memory of his younger brother is of Mark spilling Rice Crispies and trying to hide the mess under a miniature table. His influences run the gamut from guitar players including Slash, Angus Young, Brian May, Richie Sambora, Tom Morello, John Mayer, Eric Mongrain and Justin King. Oldest by one year and one week, he is the introvert brother, with a pilots license and maths degree too.
